亲爱的,我今天才看到我的年度Performance Review

Project Deliverables
• Create PSEB SharePoint site
Key contributor to creation of ACRD PSEB SharePoint site and CADC SharePoint server. His work impressed PSEB director, PSEB managers, Sr. Program manager and PJM much and won lots of appreciations.

• Set up test framework, tools
Did an excellent job in Unit Test execution, reporting and bug tracking. He usually exerted extra efforts to help team members debug test cases, target causes of issues and log bug. This won AIRViz architect’s appreciations and exceeded his Tech Lead’s expectation
Owner of feature Effect System
One of the owners of Unit Test implementation: native and managed

• Test case, defect
Developed 110 test cases(the 1st place);
Logged 43 defects (the 2nd place);
Wrote 15299 lines of C/C++/C# codes(the 1st place);

• Technical skill (coding, domain knowledge & mentoring)
Charles is the most diligent member, in AIRViz TD team, who has achieved the most obvious progress in programming, computer graphics. He successfully delivered an training on an advanced CG feature named Shadow Map, by himself.
Be the mentors of 2 interns: Mulder Xing, and Virgil Dong.

SharePoint basic problems and questions;
Ramping-up webpage for Platform new hires;
Guide of economical conference call.

• Presentations/Trainings
DirectX 3D Training - Shadow Map, delivered to AIRViz TD team;

上面是我说的Result,下面是同事对我好的评价 :

• Teamwork
Charles Yuan demonstrated excellent teamwork spirits in AIRViz TD team. Firstly he helped other teammates to resolve issues of Unit Test. Charles is the owner of Daily Unit Test report, his responsibility is to execution all the test cases designed by the team, identify case issues and finalize the report. Charles usually helped individual case owners with bug filing and even resolutions, which are out of the scope of his responsibility. Secondly, he dedicated extra effort for team building. Charles is the most active person in our team to delicate extra time for team events which is not task related. He successfully organized a team building for the whole AIRMax TD team. And I know he sacrificed lots of efforts after working time to prepare this event. Thirdly he helped new teammates ramp up. Charles is the first one who joined our team. And he shows great energy and passion towards the new comers, including me. For example, he took the trouble, from time to time, to notify me company-related or task-related information, which lead to my fast integration with our team.

Charles is a warmhearted people, understands own role and responsibility within team, always open, friendly, accepting and supportive with team members. For example, each week, he will help team members to run their unit test cases after he finish his own task, it is a fussy work, but for easing others workload, he is glad to take charge of it, more, he also help them debug into code when meet crash. He is openly and proactively shares information, knowledge and experiences, actively participates at team meetings, and initiatively hosts seminar and training, feels confidence before audiences. I remembered that he has given an excellent training on Shadow Map after his investigation. We are benefited much from it.

Charles is a team player. He always likes to assist the team. He has supported the team to build up lots SharePoint sites, and also provided tons of technical support for SharePoint.

• Initiative
Charles is the most diligent engineer in our team and smart. The potential of his personal development is unlimited, and his unselfish passion is a treasure of our team.

Charles is a initiative person. He has plenty of fresh new ideas. For example he exploited a new feature of SharePoint which is never used before and achieves a requirement from AIRData TD team.

• Listening
He always made me happy during our conversations, since he is always a good listener and put one hundred percent of his focus on what I am telling. He could provide feedbacks directly via his face and words, and then confirm his understanding with me.

Not only is Charles a good mentor but also a good listener. Charles makes frequent use of active or reflective listening. He can give very good questions in meeting or training, which demonstrates his good comprehensive ability, make interaction more effective. He has another valuable nature to listen and understand even when upset. He is always willing to listen to another point of view. Once upon a time, he wrote unit test applications for an important features on OGS project, the time is limited, but senior developer pointed out some cases should be redesigned, he still accepted that suggestions even when he was feeling much pressure, but also successfully delivered the task on time.

• Managing Multiple Priorities
Charles used to be the company-wide or division-wide SharePoint maintainer. Lots of requests reached him and some of them were urgent. He prioritized this task along with our team task properly, by working overtime or balancing the tasks with other SharePoint owners. He didn’t miss any scheduled tasks of our team.

• Learning
Charles showed the most obvious grow up speed, in term of his technology skills. He joined our team as a fresh graduate, less of technical and project experience. Now he is good at analyzing and debugging any issues with OGS codes, and he would like to do this too.

He has a very good learning skill that make him can adapt new environment quickly, even face critical challenge also very calm. First, I have worked with him in AIRMax team, he always show big willingness and ability to learn new concepts, processes and development. When he gets a new task, he knows how to investigate, grasp of new information and its implications, uses effective way to learn key points. Second, he can help others understand their learning style and how to use them in development work; this could be demonstrated by fact that he has mentored two interns successfully.

Charles is a quick learner. He has been assigned to SharePoint tasks and he mastered it in a short time. Now he is an expert of that

• Communications
Charles has outstanding communication skills both with Chinese and English. We can see from several facts below. First of all, he has superior skills on phone and in meetings. I have worked with Charles on SharePoint project team meeting for about three months. He really did a good job in effective communicate with team members and experienced US project manager, speaks well without preparation. He can explain an issue in alternative ways to accommodate different listeners, know how to validate a verbal message was received as intended. Second, he is able to develop clear and concise presentations. We have benefited from his presentations and seminars, he has full confidence, can speak persuasively and convincingly. Effective at adapting structure and level of detail to the needs of others, can adapt tone and style to alternative audiences. He has the ability to analyze and present the right message or issue in a clear, concise, and logical manner. Third, he can write a grammatically correct, standard technical correspondence, he also participated in the development of documentation. He has sent out the office telephone user manual to whole PSEB department, we are all benefited from it, that’s one of typical evidences.

• Knowledge of Company
Charles has good knowledge of company’s organizational structure, culture, operating principles, values and vision of product.

这些是同事对我不好的评价 :

• Technical skill
Charles is kindly and can get along very well with team member and some colleague in our company, and he also can do some basic work and feel tireless, But a little flaw is, his skill is not very strong, he always ask help from Mudler, David, Kerry, ling and me, sometimes we dig into his problem and work out and then teach him again, so most of time, some works cost 2 times effort. This is worthless. I am sorry that I am so frank. Hope it will not hurt him. By anyway, we can get lots of fun from Charles, thanks.

I hope Charles can improve his skills and finish some work by his own effort, when he encounter problems next time, don't ask people for help so imprudently, he can think deeply and try to do it by himself

Charles could be more professional. He is quite fresh as only less than 1 year experience. I hope he can experienced more challenges and get fast grow up

• Oral Communications
Charles shall make face to face communications more effective. It is really happy to talk with Charles. But during our discussions, I think the area for him to improve is: to emphasize the key point of what he is talking, no matter when the emphasis is notified.

• Written Communications
I’ve monitored the big progress of Charles in email communications, especially with US peers: from the beginning of fear of getting touch with them to current initiative of topic by email. I have to say it is a leap. However, it will be better if the following two skills get improved: layout style of the mail; well-organized information to make the reader get the main idea as soon as possible.

• Problem Solving
Charles is apt to learn, and would like to solicit others’ suggestions and opinions when he is facing some problems. He has done very well in the following development areas and there still some spaces for improvement:
1. To accumulate the problem solving experiences of the similar situations in order to prepare well for the future happenings;
2. To think over beforehand when encountering some problems, then to discuss the problems with other people with deep-considerate ideas.

• Managing multiple priorities
Absolutely Charles has good learning and problem resolving skills. Here I am going to say improvement he can make. I notice Charles feels anxious when he was assigned multiple concurrent tasks or activities, although he can deliver all task successfully, but effective judgment in prioritizing and time allocation can help get twice the result with half the effort. If we can clarifies diverse activities, quickly identifies potential conflicts that impact current delivery commitments, the work would be in an orderly way.

What’s working

On the other hand, Charles has made extra efforts for team building. He is the most active person in our team to dedicate extra time for our team. He successfully organized a team building for the whole AIRMax TD team. In fact, he sacrificed much of his rest time to prepare this event.

- Listening: Charles is always a good listener and fully focuses on the conversation. He always made others happy during their conversations. He could provide feedbacks directly via his face and words, and then confirm his understanding with the question. Besides that, he has another valuable nature to listen and understand even when upset. He is always willing to listen to another point of view. Once upon a time, he wrote unit test for an important feature of AIRViz. The time was limited, but senior developer pointed out some cases should be redesigned. After thinking twice, he still accepted that suggestion even when he was feeling much pressure, but also successfully delivered the task on time.

- Learning: He has very good learning skills which facilitate him to adapt to new environment quickly, even when face to critical challenge. Charles grows up at the fastest speed, in term of his technology skills in AIRViz TD team. He joined this team as a fresh graduate with poor technical and project experience. He always shows big willingness and ability to learn new concepts, processes and development. He knows how to investigate, grasp implications and key points. Now he is good at analyzing and debugging any issues with OGS codes. What he done is beyond my expectation. This capability of Charles also showed in his participation of SharePoint project.

- Communications: Charles has good communication skills both with Chinese and English. This can be proved by several facts. First of all, he has superior skills on phone and in meetings. He did a good job in effective communicate with SharePoint team members and experienced US project manager, and spoke well without preparation. He could explain an issue in alternative ways to accommodate different listeners, know how to validate a verbal message was received as intended. Secondly Charles has the capability of delivering technical trainings to the team. Most of AIRMax team members still have the deep impression of his training about Shadow Map and Unit Testing. And during trainings, he always showed high confidence in front of audiences.

- Managing Multiple Priorities: Charles used to be the company-wide or division-wide SharePoint maintainer. Lots of requests came to him and some of them were urgent. He prioritized this task along with our team task properly, by working overtime or balancing the tasks with other SharePoint owners. He completed those concurrent tasks without reducing productivities.

What’s not working
- Problem Solving: Charles shall improve the skill to solve problem independently. Especially upon complex and important issues, Charles need to utilize his talent to think it over and then put forward efficient questions.

- Managing multiple priorities: Absolutely Charles has good learning and problem resolving skills. Charles sometimes feels anxious when he was assigned multiple concurrent tasks or activities. Although he can deliver all tasks successfully, effective judgment in prioritizing and time allocation is very important to the success. If he can clarifies diverse activities, quickly identifies potential conflicts that impact current delivery commitments, he will manage concurrently tasks well in order.

- Written Communications: Charles has made big progress of email communications, especially with US peers. However, it will be better if he can improve layout style of the mail and better organize information to make the reader get the main idea as soon as possible.
